Performance

In many areas of the country, business is thriving. CMs have all the work their crews and plants can handle without drumming up new sales or making new connections in their marketplaces. Jess Lohse—president of Rocky Mountain Truss and 2015 president of SBCA—and Jason Blenker—president of Blenker Building Systems—say today’s boom is a perfect time to market components.

Drywall cracking and ridging are typical problems seen in ceilings and walls of homes. Sometimes, both of these issues appear at the same location, with cracking appearing in wetter months and ridging in drier months. This problem has become more widespread as homeowners insist on larger rooms and open floor plans that have large clear span areas. This Research Report evaluates local environment changes that play a significant role in every gypsum ridging and cracking case.

Using components to solve old challenges in new ways means time and cost savings for builders and framers—and an expanding business base for component manufacturers.

Many factors go into classifying buildings. Each type will have different allowable height, allowable number of stories and allowable area limitations based on the classification. This educational program will focus on Type III-A building construction using fire retardant treated wood (FRTW).

A decade after it began operation, SBCRI is making a new push for industry-directed testing to benefit all component manufacturers.

A truss designer who recognizes conditions that require a reduction in lumber or plate design properties can help ensure trusses perform as the building designer intends.

“The sooner a project is completed, the sooner it can be sold or leased. That’s a real opportunity cost that means something to owners when I sell them on using our products.” Ken Cloyd, chairman of the board of California TrusFrame, said this to me a few years back during an interview for an article focused on innovation in the industry.

This presentation provides information on the use of gypsum wallboard in single membrane floor protection.

Floor systems are as key to making framing better, faster and more cost effective as wall panels and roof trusses.

“All the builders and framers I talk to out there say the same thing: they can’t find enough guys to do what they want to do.” Those are the thoughts of Jason Blenker, president of Blenker Building Systems. If national surveys and media reports are accurate, the sentiment is shared by most of the construction industry across the country.
