Noise control is a common concern for homeowners and construction industry professionals alike. Similar to fire, sound follows the path of least resistance, and proper installation plays a significant role in the effectiveness of an assembly's sound transmission rating and/or fire endurance ratings. The following resources provide more information on fire rated and sound transmission assemblies.
One type of connection used in the manufacture of wood structural building components is the glued finger-joint. The relative newness of structural building components, and of the finger-joints which are used in them, has raised questions about their performance from the perspective of fire safety. This page provides documents and resources which address these questions.

Investing in a standardized, comprehensive safety program minimizes the risks faced by both your employees and your company. SBCA’s customizable template materials, developed specifically for the component industry, can help you implement a consistent, measurable in-plant safety program through education, training and certification.
Floor trusses are the solution to many floor framing challenges presented in today's complex and sophisticated building designs. In addition to the space allowed for mechanical and plumbing runs, floor trusses can reduce framing time, material waste and callbacks.
See the resources below for more information on how to specify, install and brace floor trusses.
BCSI Canada includes Canadian references, installation tolerances aligned with local practices, and design related tables consistent with the Canadian design standard.
Building Designers need to account for the dead and live loads of fire sprinkler systems, in addition to the other load requirements imposed under the model building codes. Truss Designers are responsible for incorporating the additional load from the fire sprinkler systems into the truss design. The information in this Research Report is applicable to both floor and roof systems. Only vertical loads from fire sprinkler systems are discussed; lateral loads, where required, should be evaluated separately by a Registered Design Professional.
This Research Report provides construction details for residential deck ledger attachment to metal plate connected wood truss floor systems. Proper attachment of the deck ledger to the house is critical for ensuring that an “attached” deck is safely and securely supported at this location.
