Accounting/Inventory Clerk
Performs a variety of tasks relating to the company’s overall financial status and inventory. May place orders for supplies. Logs and tracks supply and demand. Creates compilation and advises management of performance.
Accounts Payable Clerk
Processes bills, invoices and claims. Verifies payables and may compile data for periodic reports. Oversees and monitors outflow of funds.
Accounts Receivable Clerk
Collects payments and deposits from customers and advises customers on policies and guidelines. Deposits receivables into bank, compiles reports and sends out late notices.
Controller
Directs all financial activities of the organization. Prepares or directs the preparation of financial statements, forecasts, and budgets. Manages accounting department and advises management of desired operational adjustments based on changes in tax code. Develops and maintains planning and budgeting function. Analyzes and interprets fiscal trends. Often a CPA.
Office - Clerical Staff and General Management
Customer Service/Field Repair
Responds to external service requests and complaints in person and over the phone. Provides product and pricing information. Informs customers about services available. Prepares service orders. Investigates complaints. Coordinates necessary field repairs and jobsite service.
Dispatcher
Office coordinator of trucking fleet. Keeps in contact with drivers and relays information to or from drivers and plant personnel as necessary.
General Manager
Oversees all plant operations under the direction of the Executive(s) in charge (or in smaller companies the owner may act as general manager). Oversight responsibilities include production, personnel, finance, quality control and maintenance. Directs and coordinates all activities of the plant through department supervisors. Has direct responsibility for budget preparation, operating costs, production quantities and quality.
General Office
Performs a variety of office duties. Deals with customer complaints and service requests. Answers routine inter-office inquiries, compiles routine and standardized data and operates various office machines. May assist in the preparation of simple reports and researches source documents.
Human Resources Assistant
Performs a wide variety of confidential clerical, administrative, and customer service tasks that include activities associated with payroll, benefits administration, and employee record keeping.
Human Resources Manager
Oversees all employment and recruiting activities and establishes procedures related to the recruiting and employment processes. Manages all interviewing, testing, and selection processes. May develop and manage relationships with employment agencies and outside recruiters. May also develop and maintain equal employment opportunity and affirmative action plan statistics and reports.
Operations Manager
Responsible for the overall management/coordination of production, sales and administration functions of the plant location. Develops operating budgets and capital expenditure recommendations and creates operating policies and procedures as required.
Plant Personnel
Assembly Leader
First line working supervisor over a small crew of personnel performing assembly. Function requires ability to interpret set-up sheets including dimension checks for conformance to drawings and ability to keep crew on a production schedule. In charge of minor machinery repair and adjustments and possibly routine maintenance. Normally requires one or more years of production experience.
Assembly Personnel
Performs one or more repetitive jobs on an assembly line or sub-assembly line to produce and assemble products. Involves such processes as insertion of materials, clamping, fitting parts and use of some hand tools. Entry level position requiring some on-the-job training.
Catcher at Saws
Handles material on the off-load conveyor side of a component saw. Cooperates with the component saw operator. May be required to check material for accuracy of cutting set-up. Stacks and loads chords, web members and truss parts on shop carts or buggies. Bands the material, marks the order number and type and moves to area for forklift or conveyor removal.
Clean Up Personnel
Performs duties to keep shop clean. Removes scrap and refuse, sweeps and cleans work areas, aisles, storage areas, etc. Assists in the performance of minor preventative maintenance duties such as: oil & lubricating, maintaining coolant levels, charging batteries, making minor equipment repairs, etc. May act as a backup forklift operator. Cuts scrap lumber and sorts salvaged wood pieces.
Component Saw Operator
The primary person responsible for the operation and production of a component saw. Usually the lead person in a two-person (with catcher at saws). Works through a cutting list or batch and makes necessary angle and length adjustments to produce parts on cutting list or batch and in-feeds lumber through the saw. Requires reading and math skills as well as ability to organize work at this level. May perform minor adjustments to component saw.
ForkLift Operator
Drives a gas, diesel, or electric powered industrial forklift truck equipped to load, unload, lift, stack, or move products, parts, equipment or materials in a warehouse, storage shed factory or storage yard. Normally requires at least one year of experience in the operation of material handling equipment.
Maintenance Personnel
Performs a variety of duties that range from routine servicing of machinery and equipment to the rebuilding of some portions of the production machinery. May supervise installation of new machinery or assist with that installation. Familiar with air, hydraulic, electrical systems as well as valves, circuits and pumps. Troubleshoots malfunctions and replaces defective parts. Primary duty: keeps plant machinery running at all times.
Saw Picker
Selects lumber grades and lengths in accordance with ‘pick’ lists provided by truss technicians to ensure component and other saws are able to continually cut lumber.
Sawyer Personnel
Operates one or more type saws such as metracut saw, radial arm saw, swing saw, bevel saw, shop saw, table saw, etc. for the production of specialized assembly parts. Derives information from a building materials or cutting list. Must be familiar with angles, measurements and have some math skills.
Set Up Personnel
Under the direction of the plant production foreman, makes necessary adjustments to the production tables or machinery to conform to the designed truss shapes or pattern. Not normally engaged in the actual production of the assembly, but rather, responsible for the accuracy of the assembly, as well as its conformance to drawing details. Normally requires several years of production experience or some type of field construction experience. Above average position in shop requiring reading, writing, and some math skills.
Stacker/Racker
Operates on the end of a finished roller line or production line sorting trusses per type and order to keep the finished product organized. May band or help band trusses as well as mark the type of truss, attach warning or bearing tags, and make visual inspections of the truss quality. May sheathe gable end or nail multiply girder trusses.
Staging Personnel
Responsible for positioning of material in the plant or staging area for assignment to the plant assembly lines. Could include truss parts and/or plate materials. Normally works from a schedule or list furnished by the production foreman.
Web Saw Operator
Similar in scope to a component saw operator, except primarily limited to web member cutting. Can operate a small version or standard version of a component saw. The work is less physically strenuous than that of a person operating a component saw since most components are limited to 2x4 materials. Similar skill requirements to a component saw operator.
Yard Personnel
Operates a powered industrial forklift truck to transport materials on company premises. Measures and cuts material to prescribed size. Bands and labels units following established procedures. Maintains accurate inventories of materials and monitors their status. Oversees proper location of inventory. Assists in keeping yard neat and clean.

Plant Production Foreman
Performs on-the-job training for hourly employees, covering plant safety, company methods and personnel development. Develops employees to have a positive attitude toward safety. Responsible for proper utilization of manpower and equipment. Has ability to relate to the employees and their problems, and handles complaints and questions promptly, consistently and fairly. Improves production methods and processes. Educates employees to understand quality and motivates them to meet and exceed requirements.
Plant Production Foreman Assistant
Assists with on-the-job training for hourly employees, covering plant safety, company methods and personal development. Helps develop employees to have a positive attitude toward safety. Assists with proper utilization of manpower and equipment. Able to relate to the employees and their problems, and handles complaints and questions promptly, consistently and fairly. Helps improve production methods and processes. Helps educate employees to understand quality and motivates them to meet and exceed requirements.
Plant Saw Foreman
Performs on-the-job training for proper use of saw equipment, safety procedures, and reading of work orders. Develops employees to have a positive attitude toward safety. Oversees that blades are kept clean and sharp and that maintenance schedules are followed. Oversees that correct grades of material are used and identifies poor quality lumber. Educates employees to understand quality standards and motivates them to meet or exceed requirements.
Production Manager
Facilitates the smooth flow of work through the plant. Ensures that outgoing products meet or exceed standards. Coordinates all activities that relate to trucking, forklifts, and work flow in the yard. Answers questions from customers regarding product or service. Establishes and maintains quality control procedures and communications with the sales force. Works with department managers and monitors flow going to the shop.
Quality Control
Reports to the engineering department or management that does not have direct line production responsibilities. Has knowledge of company standards and requirements, lumber grading rules, TPI requirements and how the product is used by the customer. Records and identifies product by origin and date. Records data to identify progress of quality, either positive or negative.
Scheduler
Plans and formulates production schedules to conform with master schedules, sales department releases and inventory requirements. Organizes overall procedures for a specific allocation of time and selects program of manufacture in accordance with shipping commitments and inventory forecast requirements. Schedules manufacturing load for most economical procedures, equipment utilization, etc. Maintains check on material inventories, production progress and other factors affecting schedules. Determines recourse in event of failures to meet schedules. Revises schedules and issues orders to suit order changes, cancellations and revised forecasts. Assigns work to and instructs production clerks, internal expediters and others engaged in production control work. Requires knowledge of manufacturing procedures and capacities, company products and components and production control procedures.

Yard Foreman
Oversees and supervises all yard activities including: inventory levels, unloading of raw materials and their respective storage, transport of raw materials to production, placement of finished products, and loading of finished products for shipping and delivery. Has ability to relate to employees and their problems, and handles complaints and questions promptly, consistently and fairly. Improves production methods and processes, helps educate employees to understand quality and motivates them to meet or exceed production requirements.
Technical & Information Technology Staff
Beginning Truss Technician
In addition to draftsperson’s responsibilities, understands loading conditions and is able to use company design software packages. Has knowledge of equipment used in plant and how to produce efficient cutting for same.
Draftsperson
Has ability to read blueprints and visualize details in three dimensions. Has knowledge of field requirements and plant production requirements for details.
Engineer
Professional or Structural engineer.
IT Manager
Coordinates activities of information technology operations with the other organizational departments or divisions. Assists in determining the appropriate computer services that will provide effective service to all internal users. Recommends policies and procedures, maintains contact with all users, management services, and information technology sections to coordinate activities for the best results. Participates in evaluating the quality of services and procedural enhancements.
IT Specialist
Performs a variety of information technology services for the organization, which may include LAN/WAN maintenance, database maintenance, user support, systems security, etc. Coordinates activities of information technology operations with other organizational departments or work units. Assists in determining the appropriate computer services that will provide effective service to all internal users. Recommends changes to policies and procedures to enhance the efficiency of information technology use. Maintains contact with all users.
Senior Truss Technician
In addition to beginning truss technician’s responsibilities, can interact with and solve problems with customers and sales staff. Fully understands code requirements and coordinates effort with engineering staff. Able to design field repair details.
Truck Drivers
Truck Drivers
Responsible for the pre-operational inspection and maintenance of the crane. Calculates the crane capacities and weights and checks clearances so that building, hydro wires and the foundation of the machine will not be damaged. In addition, responsible for rigging, planning and hoisting of a variety of heavy construction materials. Learns and applies all safety regulations.
Truck Driver – Roll Off Trailer
Drives truck to transport component shipments to and/or from designated locations. May or may not assist with loading and/or unloading the truck. Provides on-site customer service. Must meet all federal and state road licensing and requirements.
