Clippership Wharf is a recently completely mixed-use luxury development overlooking the Boston harbor and Boston skyline. The project encompasses four separate buildings sitting on 12 acres of waterfront property on which the project encompasses 284 apartments and 194 condominiums surrounding a central courtyard with a 270-degree view of the downtown Boston skyline. Australia's largest real estate developer, Lendlease, is responsible for bringing this project to life.

Learn how component manufacturers offer the most efficient structural framing solutions and how they've made a difference in communities across the country, allowing for the most effective use of time, labor and materials to frame all types of structures. Roof trusses, floor trusses and wall panels play an integral part in the structures you see every day.
Tim Carter, founder of Ask the Builder, shows the simple value proposition of the attic trusses used to create a “bonus room” in what traditionally is wood webs, insulation and dead air. He explains that roof trusses were invented in the 1950's and revolutionized the way roofs are framed. Another benefit Tim points out is that today's modern computer software allows for just about any size or shape to be built using roof trusses.
Ask the Builder expert, Tim Carter, communicates how components expedite the building process and highlights the many reasons to build with wall panels. In the video Tim explains that wall panels have been around since the 1940's but are now built using cutting-edge technology in an automated production facility. He also shares that wall panels are easy to install which allows for fewer workers with expert carpentry skills and that can save you money. Tim points out that wall panels speed up the building process, allowing the building to be dried in sooner and ensuring construction materials are more quickly protected from the impact of rain and snow.
Ask the Builder founder, Tim Carter, enthusiastically shares the benefits of building with floor trusses using video taken during the construction of his daughter‘s new home. He explains how prefabricated floor trusses have been available since the 1970's and are designed using advanced computer software. Tim calls the floor trusses magical and shares how they can span longer distances without the need for a center support beam and allows for a more open floor plan.
Ask the Builder founder, Tim Carter shows how floor truss framing saves time when installing floor heat tubing. Tim explains that the prefabricated floor trusses provide much more room to work with, making it easier to run pipes because you don't have to drill any holes so it makes the work go faster. He points out that you don't have to worry about carpenters or plumbers drilling holes because of the convenience and space floor trusses provide.
Ask the Builder expert, Tim Carter, shows off the attic truss design of his daughter's new home. Tim highlights the benefits of using attic trusses to create more usable space and focuses on how they can be used to construct a regular staircase to the lower level.
In this video, Tim Carter says, “Whatever you can dream for your attic, for your house or for your roof, there’s a really good chance it can be done by the technical and up-to-date software that truss designers use to create these wonders.” He also states, “It’s really pretty amazing. You don’t find many attics in brand new homes and it’s really a shame because it’s really, really simple to do.”
Framing the American Dream data suggests that installing floor trusses completes the task of framing a building’s floor system in almost half the time, requires less framer skill and experience and ultimately results in a product that is more reliable.

The current labor shortage is one of the biggest challenges facing the component manufacturing industry, and construction overall. SBCA staff has worked with component manufacturers around the country to gather workforce development best practices and create tools to attract people to our industry, where there is significant potential for professional growth.
This video was designed to be a powerful recruiting tool. It highlights the many reasons why it’s great to work in the structural building component and framing industries. Several members of the SBCA Emerging Leaders Committee provided footage for the video, and it is available here for component manufacturers, framers and the rest of the supply chain to download. The video can also be embedded on your company’s website and shared on social media platforms.
Everyone is encouraged to use this video to promote our industry’s value in offering professional careers with a significant opportunity to innovate and provide structural solutions that frame the American Dream.
Framing the American Dream data suggests that installing wall panels completes the task of framing a building’s walls in a fifth the time, requires less skill and experience and ultimately allows framing crews to complete more wall projects over time.

This time-lapse video provides a side-by-side comparison of two identical homes being framed. The only difference between them is the house on the left was stick-framed on site, while the house on the right was framed using floor trusses, wall panels and roof trusses. The video provides clear proof that structural components are the better way to frame.
