On Monday, April 14, Iowa State Senator Amy Sinclair took a tour of the Plum Building Systems plant in Osceola, IA. “Most of our conversation was around employment issues in southern Iowa and the ½ inch gypsum Des Moines building code requirement for floor trusses and EWP,” said Rick Parrino, Plum’s General Manager.
“We discussed how the exclusion of solid-sawn joists was putting us at a significant competitive disadvantage for no good reason,” said Parrino. “Senator Sinclair agreed to look into who supervises the adoption of the codes and vets the provisions in them, to see if we can fight this code provision through the legislature.”
Parrino noted that his next step is to get his U.S. Representative, Joel Fry, involved in this issue when he visits him in DC during the SBC Legislative Conference in May and invite the Congressman to take a tour of the facility as well.
